Social Media in the Classroom

If you have been an educator for the past ten to fifteen years, you either know or are learning how to bring technology into the classroom. Throughout my schooling my classmates and I were always the generation to receive advanced technology at such a young age, some can not recall a time when there wasn’t a smartboard in the classroom. Smartboards is not where it stops, soon enough we had the ability to bring laptops in to class or were provided them by the school so we no longer had to take the short walk to the computer lab. Technology was just the beginning as more and more students started to get smartphones, teachers had to find ways to bring the newest social media into the classroom as well.

In today’s society social media should not be brought into the classroom. Some people may have opposite opinions saying the only way to grasp the students attention is by social media, which can and cannot be true. It isn’t just the social media that students are addicted to but technology as a whole. In primary education technology was and still is being used in the classroom with learning how to use a computer and a smartboard which have fun interactive games. As the students get older social media may start to come in to the classroom more with teacher giving hints on twitter to having students make a fake facebook or instagram profile to communicate within the class.
